The Freestate Bravehearts is a seasoned, travel team playing in the NCSL Division I. The team staff is committed to developing all players to the best of their ability while moving the team to higher levels of competition. Although physical ability and knowledge of the game are important player attributes for this winning team, teamwork, dedication and camaraderie are equally stressed.
The team is coached by Derek Potteiger who played soccer at Penn State University and went on to be drafted by the New England Revolution. Coach Potteiger has held coaching positions with teams in the USL, served as Director of the Ambassadors Futbol Club in Ohio and was Director of the Harrisburg City Islanders Super-Y program. Coach Potteiger is currently the Assistant Coach for Men’s Soccer at the United States Naval Academy.
Coach Potteiger is assisted by Coach Matt Schmidt who played soccer at Covenant College in Georgia and was an NSCAA All American from 1985-1987. Coach Schmidt has been actively involved with youth soccer since 1995 and is currently the varsity head coach at the Annapolis Area Christian Academy. Coach Schmidt holds a D coaching license in the state of Maryland.
