THE FREESTATE FUN DAY HAS BEEN POSTPONED TO JUNE 7th DUE TO UNPLAYABLE FIELD CONDITIONS
Freestate College Scholarship

Each year, college scholarships of $1,000 each will be awarded to Two Seniors in High School (one male and one female) who are members of Freestate Soccer Alliance.

Qualifications must incude planning to attend a higher institution of learning after High School; has been with the club for a minimum of 2 years; and has a base cummalative GPA of 3.0.

Tryouts for 2008-2009 Season

Tryouts for the 2008-2009 season will be conducted through May and June for all teams.  Go to tryouts and team pages for specific dates, locations and contact information.

Freestate Soccer Fun Day (Ages 6-10)

CANCELLED DUE TO THE WEATHER - RESCHEDULED FOR JUNE 7

Please join Freestate Soccer in its first Annual SOCCER FUN DAY on May 10, 2008 at Queen Anne School, 14111 Oak Grove Rd. Upper Marlboro, MD 20775.

Our Fun Day program will provide you and your children with a Fun Day of soccer and games. Starting Time: 10:00 AM (Look for the Registration Station All players are welcome.

Who: Boys and Girls, Ages 6 through 10.
 
Cost: $10 per child for 4 vs 4 Tournament ; Skill’s Competition no charge.
 
The Soccer Fun Day is a two Part Program:
A.) 10:00 AM: Soccer competition (5 stations). Top three in each age group are the winners.
  1. Speed Dribble
  2. Short passing onto wall
  3. Heading into goal 
  4. Long instep passes
  5. Penalty shooting Champion
All competition should be finished by 12:00 PM, followed by the Award Ceremony at 12:15 PM.
 
B.) 12:30 PM: 4 v 4 Tournament
 
This tournament will be conducted using a "Dutch Tournament" Format.  Players will register individually rather than with an established team. Each player will play a series (at least 5) small-sided (3v3 or 4v4) games with randomly assigned teammates that will change with each game played.  See "Player Rankings & Awards," in the Rules for information on scores and standings.
 
Maximum 60 teams

Children entering the game at the youngest age level should participate in the game of soccer in a format that is both fun and better suited to their development.  The international soccer community has embraced a small-sided games approach as the best way to intoduce the game to children.

Apparel Donations
Jose Benitez and SoccerDome, LLC is launching an effort to collect used soccer clothing and equipment. The donations will be distributed to
children in developing countries in Latin America who cannot afford these items. Because Latin American countries have a tropical climate,
we do not need clothing for cold weather.  Interested donors can contact Jose Benitez at 410-599-8611 or by email at jose@soccerdome.com or drop off items at SoccerDome I (7330 Montevideo Road Jessup, MD 20794) or at SoccerDome II (7447 Shipley Ave Harmans, MD 21077).  Donations can also given to Jose at the Murtaugh fields during from 5:30 to 8:30 on Monday's and Wednesday's during the Spring season.   Any member of the Freestate Ajax or Freestate Arsenal will also collect donations. 
Spring 2008 Mini-Kicker Program Ages U4-U6

New for 2008!  Freestate Soccer under the direction of Steve Campbell and Peter Kaminskas will offer an introductory clinic for children 4 to 6 years old starting Friday, April 11 for 6 consecutive weeks.  The curriculum will be a theme-games based approach to learning soccer in a fun environment.

Spring 2008 Youth Development Clinic Ages U7-U9

Beginning Thursday, April 10 through May 29, 2008.  The clinic mixes skill and concept development and small-sided games.  Sessions conducted under the direction of Peter Kaminskas, Freestate Youth Development Coordinator.

Freestate players to compete for US Youth National Team in Spain

Congratulations and good luck to Christine Narin and Tiffany McCarty from the U-18 Girls Freestate Shooters who will be traveling to Spain with the U18 US NATIONAL Team in March to face Sweden, Norway, and France.  For more details visit www.ussoccer.com

Congratulations to Eli Dennis and Jereme (Michael) Raley from the U-16 Boys Freestate Elite who will be travelling to Barcelona, Spain with the Region 1 ODP from Febraury 23 to March 2.  We wish the boys good luck.  For more details visit www.region1.com

 

Soccer America ranks Freestate in Top 25 Soccer Clubs Nationally
Freestate Girls Listed #22 (2007-2008)

Soccer America has published the ranking of the top youth clubs in the Country. Freestate has been ranked in the top 25 for the second consecutive year.

Criteria
Soccer America selects the top 25 clubs, based on success of their teams in national youth championships over the last three years and national recognition for players (including U.S. national youth team selections, NSCAA/adidas Youth All-Americans and U.S. Youth Soccer ODP Interregional All-Stars) from these clubs in 2007.

FREESTATE SA. The Freestate Shooters, the top team in Maryland’s Freestate Soccer Association, won their first national title in 2007 when they captured the U-17 Super Group at U.S. Club Soccer’s National Cup VI. Two Shooters played Division I college ball in 2007 and 12 others have committed to Division I programs in 2008 and 2009. Rising Stars: Lyndse Hakonson and Janice Johnson of the Phoenix played for Region I in the ’92 Interregionals group.

US Club Soccer National Champions

 

The Shooters (Girls U17) Sharks (Girls U16) and Phoenix (Girls U15) proudly represented Freestate at the US CLUB SOCCER NATIONAL Championships in Greensboro, NC, July 28-31.

The Shooters captured the National crown going undeafeated in bracket play and beating Parsippany Storm 5-1 in the Final.  The Sharks and Phoenix played extremely well only to be elimianted from advancing to the final in their last bracket match.  Well done all teams!
